CDPHE partners with RORCO to distribute kids’ books at mobile vaccination sites

CDPHE partners with Reach Out and Read to distribute kids’ books at select mobile vaccination sites

Ball Arena COVID-19 vaccine clinics continue throughout December Statewide vaccination clinics from Dec. 11 to Dec. 18

STATEWIDE (Dec. 10, 2021) — Colorado’s statewide COVID-19 vaccination campaign continues with clinics offering COVID-19 vaccines and booster doses in communities across the state, including a special partnership with Reach Out and Read Colorado, an organization that helps families and communities encourage early literacy skills. Reach Out and Read Colorado generously donated nearly 1,000 children’s books for kids who receive their COVID-19 vaccines at select bus clinics on the eastern plains in Crowley, Kit Carson, Morgan, Otero counties, as well as Mesa, Garfield, La Plate, Montrose, Delta, Eagle, and Summit Counties. Books include early readers, early chapter books, young adult novels, and graphic novels.

“One of the pillars of our program is to help families build robust home libraries through our Gently Used Books program,” said Anne Tengler, Executive Director. “We are delighted to expand our reach by providing our mobile clinic partners with a wide range of wonderful books for kids of all ages to enjoy.”

Book giveaways are available while supplies last at clinics highlighted in the list below.

Beginning today, the large vaccination site at Aurora Municipal Center (15151 E. Alameda Pkwy, Aurora, CO 80012) is expanding to administer up to 1,000 doses per day on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This site joins recent expansions at Chapel Hills Mall (1710 Briargate Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80920), Douglas County Fairgrounds (500 Fairgrounds Road, Castle Rock, CO 80104), and the Pueblo Mall (3201 Dillon Dr., Pueblo, CO 81008) to offer up to 1,000 doses per day Friday-Sunday each week. Advance appointments are available, and walk-ups are accepted while inventory remains available each day.

CDPHE has also added Jefferson Marketplace (8194 S Kipling Pkwy, Littleton, CO) as a new vaccination site offering up to 250 doses per day Tuesday-Sunday each week, in addition to availability at the Mesa County Community Services Building (510 29 1/2 Road, Grand Junction, CO 81504) that can provide up to 250 doses per day Wednesday through Saturday, offering only pediatric doses on Saturday.

All mobile vaccine clinics and many standalone clinics are offering pediatric Pfizer vaccines for 5-11 year olds. CDPHE recommends parents and guardians make a plan to get their children vaccinated. Vaccines are the safest, most effective way to slow the spread of COVID-19 and help avoid the worst outcomes — severe illness, hospitalization, and death — among those who do become infected. The state maintains an updated list of providers administering Pfizer pediatric vaccines. Many clinics also offer flu vaccines, and it is safe to receive a COVID-19 vaccine and a flu vaccine on the same day.

All Coloradans age 16 and up should get a booster dose as soon as possible if it has been at least six months since they got their second dose of Pfizer or Moderna, or at least two months since they got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Yesterday, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officially expanded COVID-19 Pfizer booster recommendations for everyone 16 and older to help broaden and strengthen the protection against omicron and other variants. At this time, only the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is authorized and recommended for adolescents aged 16 and 17.

Vaccines are free, and no identification, proof of residency, or insurance is required.

The list below includes vaccine clinics from December 11 to December 18. These clinics are in addition to the more than 1800 vaccine providers across the state
