December is a very important time for charitable giving, as donors generously close out the year by supporting the causes they care most deeply about. As 2017 drew to a close, Reach Out and Read Colorado asked our supporters and the larger community to help us in a specific effort – to raise $15,000 to support an additional 6,000 families. Thanks to your generous spirit, we surpassed this goal during the 24 hours of Colorado Gives Day alone, raising more than $22,000. Not only are we grateful for this outpouring of support, we are proud of the impact: we closed the year serving 120,290 children – an increase of approximately 10,000 from the start of 2017!
Now more than ever, your support makes our work possible. Many leading estimates, such as the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center Microsimulation Model, predict total dollars donated will decrease anywhere from $12 Billion-$20 Billion (4-6% decrease) in 2018 as a result of the changes in the tax code. We are profoundly grateful for your continued partnership and for acting to create opportunity for our state’s youngest children.
