In the Fall of 2015, Reach Out and Read Colorado partnered with One Thousand Design to create a set of custom check-up stickers. The stickers are for children after their wellness check-ups and intended to empower families and extend beneficial early literacy messages beyond the exam room into the community. The act of receiving a sticker after the exam builds on the patient and health care provider relationship.
There are six unique designs in total and each is available in English and Spanish. Each sticker is 2.5″ by 2.5″ and printed by local sticker company, Sticker Giant (located in Longmont, Colorado). The unique messages were developed to empower. The “Champion Page Turner” sticker instills a feeling of pride in both the child and caregiver. “The I Don’t Put Books in My Mouth Anymore” sticker reminds the family of major developmental milestones and healthy child development. The “Ask Me About My New Book” sticker fuels conversations about the importance of early literacy and reading aloud in the community.
Since creation, more than 50,000 check-up stickers have been distributed throughout Colorado and that number is growing every year. If you are interested in obtaining check-up stickers or want to learn more, please email our Communications Director.
