Some of my most treasured memories are of my father, Ralph MacKenzie MD, reading to me as a child in Silverton, Colorado. We lived in the basement apartment of the Miners Union Hospital during my father’s short stay as the only medical doctor in Silverton. My mother served as his nurse and medical technician. In 1995, I graduated with a BSN (Bachelors Degree in the Science of Nursing) from Mesa State College, now Colorado Mesa University. I am now the Clinic Nurse Manager for the Silverton Clinic, a 501C3 located in the very same Miners Union Hospital building where I saw people born and die as a child. Silverton Clinic staff are very proud to partner with Reach Out and Read Colorado, with the intention of educating our patients and their children for their own good, better, best health outcomes.
