Maureen Maycheco

Maureen has worked on a number of initiatives to get Colorado families reading, including creating and launching the New Parent Empowerment Initiative (NPEI). As part of that effort, which launched in April 2018, Maycheco designed an interactive storybook to start a conversation with expectant moms about the importance of introducing their baby to as many words as possible.

With the aim of developing a habit of positive interaction that will continue throughout the child’s lifetime, the storybook serves as a tool for pregnant women to guide reading, talking and singing to their baby in utero.NPEI is being piloted by eight front range clinics and 22 nurse-family partnership sites in Colorado. Over 5,000 storybooks (in English and Spanish) were distributed in 2018, and the program is quickly achieving National buzz.

To be considered amongst such a diverse and brilliant network of communication professionals across the nation is an incredible honor, and I congratulate my fellow honorees and everyone nominated.
