Top 3 reasons why I LOVE working with Reach Out and Read Colorado
#1 is because when children come in for a well-child check, the majority of times they receive shots. At the end of the visit the book is presented to them (after the program has been explained to the parent) and I just enjoy seeing the children get excited to receive a book. They open it right away and pretend to read the book. Therefore a book is introduced to them and marked as their own personal book.
#2 is that I love seeing the children walk in straight to the bookshelf in the waiting area and want to read a book to their parent. The children already know those books are there for them and want to pretend they are the teacher that is reading to the others. Those moments are just sooo adorable!
#3 is that it feels good to know that I am a part of an important program that introduces a big variety of books to children as a head start to reading. There’s many children out in the community that have never had a book of their own and we’re here to provide that for them, to teach them that it’s as great to have a book of their own rather as it is a toy. When a child passes by or comes into the clinic they’ll remember that we are the ones that give them books to read.
When I’m out and about or watching television and I see something that has to do with the Reach Out and Read program, I am proud to say that I work with Reach Out and Read Colorado!
