Local Spotlight: Joni Adelman, Mineral County Public Health

I work as the Mineral County Public Health Nurse for the Silver Thread Public Health District as well as a Family Nurse Practitioner for the Creede Family Practice. Living and working in Creede, Colorado for the last nine years has allowed me many opportunities to fill and serve the needs of our community. I provide primary care, vaccinations, home visits, diabetes education, child healthcare consultation, and volunteer for the many health fairs, sport physicals, and health outreach in Mineral County.

While finishing my masters degree I was exposed to the Read Out and Read Program by a pediatrician and I soon started our own program in Mineral County. Literacy is so important to life success and health. I love using books as I perform early childhood exams, developmental screenings, and vaccinations for the children and families in Mineral County.

Creede is a small, rural community that has always supported my ideas for health: from a transcutaneous bilirubin monitor for infants to a concussion program for the high school, to books for Reach Out and Read Colorado. My success is illuminated by the commitment of our community to health and education!

Sincerely,

Joni Adelman
