Wall decals are common décor in the health care setting, but using the unique, and reusable, material as an outlet for health information sharing is the height of innovation and creativity. Placed strategically on waiting room and exam room walls, Reach Out and Read Colorado’s decals educate Colorado families about early child development and the importance of sharing books, while extending the culture of literacy via meaningful imagery.
At the core of the wall decal project is the development of two distinct decal designs: Brain and Seedling (see below). Brain represents the positive impact reading out loud has on brain development and school success. Seedling represents parent/child bonding and a child’s potential to thrive as a result of sharing books. Both decals share a simple infographic style, thoughtful iconography and are printed in both English and Bilingual versions. The decal designs were inspired by classic “I Spy” posters and encourage dialogic interactions between parent and child, as well as between health care provider and parent/child.
Each decal is 36″ by 36″ and printed on 3M repositionable wall film with a matte laminate.
Currently, the wall decals can be found in more than 70 clinics throughout Colorado and that number is growing every year. If you are interested in obtaining wall decals for your clinic waiting or exam rooms, or would like to know more, please email our Communications Director.
