"This weekend I sorted through 3,000 children's books I have collected over five years of being a teacher and ten years of being a mom. I am parting ways with 811 of them. They each have a place in my heart because that's what books do. They carve out a little bit of your memory bank and fill that space with an experience, a conversation, an image, an interest, something new learned. I have read these books first to the children I taught, then to my own children, and now I often read them to my coworkers when I find a special one that just must be shared. It is time for someone new to find wonder between the pages of these books and because of programs like Reach Out and Read, they will go to children in our community who not only need them most but will treasure them as I have."
