What is Reach Out and Read?
Reach Out and Read trains doctors and nurses to advise parents about the importance of reading aloud and to give book to children at pediatric check-ups from 6 months to five years of age, with a special focus on children growing up in poverty. By building on the unique relationship between parents and medical providers, Reach Out and Read helps families and communities encourage early literacy skills so children enter school prepared for success in reading.

Our Mission
The mission of Reach Out and Read Colorado is to make literacy promotion a standard part of the provision of pediatric primary care.

Making an Impact in Colorado
The over 120 Colorado clincis in 42 counties participating in Reach Out and Read distribute 135,000 books to 81,000 children annually. Over 650 healthcare providers have been trained in the Reach Out and Read model and there are over 50 volunteer readers in waiting rooms across the state.
